Home Renovation

Out with the old…or not?!

In two weeks time plans have changed yet again.  My brain is a ping pong ball in my head and I can’t keep up. Or is it my husbands brain is the ping pong ball. That sounds better.  Always the husband being indecisive!  Either way, here is where we stand this week.  The short of it, stay in our current home and do some renovations.  Here’s the longer story…

We went and looked at 2 acres, then 3 acres, then 4 acres.  We looked into custom homes, builders, contractors, and even the companies that you are the contractor working under their umbrella for guidance and knowledge.  We found a floorplan to work off of.  We have design boards and all things mapped out in our heads.  But one conversation leads to another and so on and so forth.  There was always one reason or another that the land options just weren’t working for us.  The school district for one had lower ratings.  The other one was within city limits and had deed restrictions.  Another one was in a community with higher end homes and we want a garden and chickens (very miniature farm lifestyle.)  So one night while discussing all the options and not being able to have it all line up exactly like we want, we start talking about what could we do to stay in our current home and have some of things we want.  But more importantly, all the bigger benefits that staying would mean.  Paying off our house quicker and not starting over.  More travel.  More experiences as a family. These things were a bigger priority for me than what a new home could provide. HUGE priority.  So after letting it marinate, that is where we stand. My only concern was that the things that need to happen actually happen and not just be left as ideas.

With all that being said, so far all systems are go.  There has already been two appointments made to start some of the necessary updates. And there has also been some talks for a fun project that is not necessary but will be thoroughly enjoyed. More to come later on that topic.  If anyone in the DFW area reads this and has recommendations for murphy bed desks and built in shelving please send the info in.
